Bird Monitoring Count takes place in 2011
On January 15th of each year bird enthusiasts, wetlands specialists and conservation park agents all over the world participate in the annual bird count. The annual waterbird count is undertaken in all wetlands of international importance and monitors large colonies of birdlife for changing trends that provide vital data on the wetlands ecosystem.
One such wetland is the Senegal river delta where Wetlands international Africa partnered with tens of volunteers as well as park agents from the National Park Bird Sanctuary and Banc d'Arguin in Mauritania to carry out the bird counting exercise. The bird counters were first trained on the use of equipment and counting methodology before being sent out in teams to the Djouj Park. Wetlands International supported this exercise through its BIOMAC program.
